Flex CCR offers several options for management and control of PPO2. It can be either ordered as a manually controlled unit (mCCR) with a constant mass flow (CMF) orifice (“leaky valve”), or an electronically controlled unit (eCCR), with a solenoid.
All electronics use same removable watertight connectors in the head. This allows easy breakdown for travel and flexibility in attaching various PPP02 monitors.
mCCR version comes with Shearwater Petrel PPO2 monitor and HUD, or cables suited to plugging in an external PO2 monitor (Fischer connector). Shearwater NERD 2 is also an option for PPO2 monitoring. Any Fischer connector based after market HUD like the Narked@90 can also readily be used.
Button for HUD calibration is built directly into the top of the Flex head.
eCCR version comes with Shearwater DiveCAN Petrel 2 controller and DiveCAN HUD. Or the secondary display can be configured with any of the analog options available for the mCCR version.
Battery compartments at the top of the head are easily accessible. Flex uses rechargeable Li-Ion 18500A battery for both the HUD and the eCCR controller
Head
The rebreather head, with electronics and sensors is located in the middle of the assembled Flex unit, below the counterlungs case and above the scrubber can. Inside the head, Flex has removable oxygen sensor cartridge.
The sensors are located above the scrubber, on the inhalation side. The gas travels from the outside of the scrubber then passes up the inside of the scrubber to a chamber containing the 3 oxygen cells. The oxygen sensors are in removable cartridge/carrier that can be easily detached for storage in a dry place.
The sensor cartridge is secured in place by a locking lid connecting it directly to the scrubber when the unit is assembled. The lid is permanently attached to the head, preventing miss-assembly of the breathing stack.
Sensor cartridge accommodates three galvanic O2 sensors with coaxial cable connections. It has collapsible metal handle for easy removal and insertion.
